USPS is a
private, non-profit, non-governmental and non-military
organization of United States citizens, who are socially
compatible and have a common love and appreciation of
recreational boating. There are no barriers to membership on the
grounds of race, religion, or ethnic background. The National
organization is comprised of some 60,000 members in over 450
Squadrons across the country and in US territories. Organized in
1914, USPS is the world's largest private, non-profit, boating
organization. Boat ownership is not a requirement.
The Taunton River Power Squadron was
founded in 1954 as an offshoot of the Narragansett Bay Power
Squadron and currently has approximately 170 members. While
social activities are a regular part of the calendar,
self-education and civic service are stressed. Educational
opportunities are available to members through courses ranging
from Seamanship to Advanced Piloting to Celestial Navigation
with appropriate recognition at each level of attainment.
Members also have the opportunity to select from a number of
elective courses including Cruise Planning, Instructor
Qualification, Marine Electronics, Engine maintenance, Sail and
Weather.

Our Mission
Our members are boating families who
contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating on the
water and in the classroom.
The following article describes an anonymous donation and is
an example of the generosity of the members. It also shows
another way we contribute to our communities.
